The NHL season is finally upon us. On Wednesday night thirty-one NHL teams begin their quest to make it. Everyone has a fresh slate as they try and improve upon last year and reach the objective. The San Jose Sharks along with the Vegas Golden Knights will meet up in an expected rematch from last seasons first round of the match to finish the night. This game will start at PM Eastern time.
San Jose finished last season out with a record of 46-27-9, which made them second place in the Pacific Division. The Sharks were able to ride this document into the Seminar, in which they finally fell to the St. Louis Blues in six games. San Jose will look to build off last year to create their next Stanley Cup appearance in five years and kept a portion of their core that this offseason.
The Golden Knights ended last year with a list of 43-32-7 from the Pacific Divisions third area location. Vegas took a tough first round exit to the San Jose Sharks, which shortened their year. The Golden Knights will seem to create their next Stanley Cup appearance in three years and once again look like contenders in the Western Conference.
The Golden Knights and the Sharks have established quite a rivalry in the couple seasons that I expect a great season opener between these and now that Vegas was in the league. The Golden Knights have a small advantage with this game being in the home, but I expect a lot of fans that are San Jose to have made the decision.
Their encounters with the Sharks have been great, although vegas has been for 2 seasons in the league. The very first period in the league the Golden Knights and San Jose and four times fulfilled up . Vegas went 3-0-1 in these matches, with one of the wins coming in overtime. Where Vegas earned in six games the Golden Knights and the Sharks fulfilled again at the second round of the match.
San Jose and Vegas played with four times again from the Golden Knights season during the regular season. Both groups were each able to win two of those four matches. In which San Jose moved in a contentious game seven overtime these two teams met in the very first round of the playoffs.
During these two seasons, the Golden Knights have set a record of 5-1-2 against San Jose at the regular season. Vegas owns the edge in the playoffs. Both teams more seem to be contenders and Id expect this game to have the year off to a chippy start.
San Jose produced a move. This helped solidify one of the strongest defensive cores in the NHL. The Sharks were able to maintain Kevin Labanc and Timo Meier. San Jose did lose out for their captain.
As they were able to maintain their heart mostly 20,, the Golden Knights had a similar offseason as the Sharks. Vegas stepped William Karlsson and Brandon Pirri to deals. The Golden Knights lost Colin Miller, but still have a line that was more than capable. Since he had been a first round draft selection two years back cody Glass could make his NHL debut on Wednesday night.
These teams could dance round the salary cap this offseason to keep a team. The hit between these two teams is the loss of Joe Pavelski. While the Sharks hurt, they still have more than capable players on offense to maintain. Neither team looked to create splashes but they might have done just enough to take this step towards raising the cup.
Martin Jones needed a forgettable year last season as he posted a save percentage of .896 and a GAA of 2.94. Jones went 36-19-5 during his begins. The Sharks core is great at restricting shots, that has helped them win matches regardless of the save percentage. Jones will look to start out this season more powerful as he attempts to earn the first win of this year.
Marc-Andre Fleury will be the starting goalies for the Golden Knights on Wednesday night. Fleury finished last season. He was able to make a .913 save commission along with a GAA of 2.51. Fleury has been great in his two seasons and hasnt shown any sign of slowing down. Fleury will look to get this rivalry started as the Golden Knights look for revenge.
Fleury was the greater overall goalie last season in his save percentage and GAA. Both the Fleury and Jones had similar documents during those starts. Both teams rely heavily on strong play therefore both of these should start off the season strong. I anticipate both goalies to make huge saves frequently and early in this game.
The rivalry between both of these squads the previous two seasons makes this one of their most anticipated matchups on coming night. Vegas period was cut short in very contentious fashion last season and they will look for a few revenge on opening night. I feel this game could go either way, but Id give the Golden Knights a small advantage.

Martin Jones needed a season stat wise last year, but I like it to flip around this season.
