Lane filtering feels very safe you literally just walking your bike or riding up slowly between stationary cars, usually traffic is so packed that they couldn hit you anyways unless people just randomly smash the car door next to them at lights.splitting is a little more mixed bag, official law in cali is that you can go more than 10 mph faster than the cars and you cna lane split over 35 mph. Of course plenty of people break those, lane splitting faster than 10 mph is asking for trouble as people will change lanes without signaling and won leave you enough time to react. I do lane split over 35 but cool it under 45 50ish any faster and you just weaving really fast through traffic.I feel safe, don drive aggressive and have not dropped a bike in over a decade let alone been hit.
